This year's competition was organized by University College
London
and hosted by the American University in
Bulgaria. It took place in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, from the 31st of
July to the 6th of August, 2017. Every participating university sent several students and one or more Team Leaders. Individual students without a Team Leader were welcome. Each Team Leader hold an academic position in a Faculty of the Intitution that they represent.
The competition was for students completing their first, second, third
or fourth year of university education with a maximum age of participants being 23 years of age at the time of the competition. There was no mimimum age limit. Problems were from the fields of Algebra, Analysis (Real
and Complex), Geometry and Combinatorics. The working language was
English.
Over the past twenty four competitions we have had participants from over two hundred institutions from over fifty countries.

Selection of the Problems
The
problems were chosen at the Meeting of the Jury from those received
in advance by the President of the Jury, Professor John Jayne. |
Evaluation
The students' work was
evaluated by Team Leaders and other Professors and Assistant
Professors using criteria provided by the Jury.

Groups
Although this was an individual
event, the Universities traditionally divided their participants into
groups of four each. The number of students in the teams was, however,
not fixed. |
